Orphan Girl Scholarships, Tamil Nadu & Kerala

If you are a girl who has lost one or both of your parents, there is a good chance the Vedicology Foundation can help you stay in education. We support full orphans — girls who have lost both parents — as well as girls whose father has died and whose mother has no income to fund their studies. And if you are a full orphan, the marks you need to qualify for our main scholarship are lower — 75%, where other students need 85%.

If you did not lose your parents but grew up in a registered children’s home, with no family to return to, your support is different and even fuller — see “Did you grow up in a children’s home or hostel?” below.

Losing a parent changes everything, and it should never also cost you your education. The Foundation works across Tamil Nadu and Kerala to help orphaned girls keep studying — by paying part of your fees, by coaching you for competitive exams, and by standing with you through the years it takes to finish. This page explains who we mean when we say “orphan girls,” what makes the terms easier for you, and how to begin.

Who this is for

We help orphaned girls in three situations. You do not need to know which “category” you fall into — just read these and see if one sounds like your life.

You have lost both your parents

Both your mother and your father have passed away (a full orphan). If you now live with family — grandparents, an aunt or uncle, other relatives — this page is for you. If instead you grew up in a children’s home with no family at all, there is a fuller, separate scholarship for you; see below.

Your father has died, and your mother has no income

Your mother is alive, but she has no earnings, savings, or resources to fund your education on her own.

You have lost your mother, and your father cannot provide

Your mother has passed away or is no longer present, and your father is unable to support you — because of a serious disability, a critical illness, a severe mental illness, addiction, or because he is in prison.

What marks you need, and why

Wherever you fall, if your marks are a little under these numbers, please do not close this page and decide it is not for you. Reach out and tell us your situation — especially if your college or board marks strictly. We look at the whole of your life, not only a percentage. Why full orphans have a lower marks bar

If both your parents have passed away, you have carried more than most students your age ever will. For our Merit Scholarship, a full orphan qualifies at 75%, where other eligible students need 85% for undergraduate study and 80% for postgraduate study. This 75% bar is for a full orphan who still has family around her — grandparents, relatives, or guardians who can help with part of the fees. If you’ve lost one parent and your family is struggling

We know your home holds just as much loss. For the Merit Scholarship, your marks bar is the same as for other students we support: 85% undergraduate / 80% postgraduate. The lower 75% bar is only for girls who have lost both their parents — not because your loss counts for less, but because the numbers we look at are simply different. If your marks are a little under, please still reach out and tell us your situation. We look at the whole of your life, not only a percentage.

Did you grow up in a children’s home or hostel?

If you were raised in a registered Child Care Institution — a Bala Sadan, a Balika Sadan, an orphanage, or any registered children’s home — and you are now leaving care with no family to return to, your support is different and fuller. It is called the Care Leaver Scholarship. Where the Merit Scholarship pays part of your fees, this one covers your whole education, and the marks bar is gentler too (60%). We can do that because you have no family to help with the balance, so we carry all of it. Read about the Care Leaver Scholarship.

Which kinds of support you can apply for

Being an orphaned girl does not limit you to one programme. Depending on where you are in your studies and what you are aiming for, you may be able to apply for:

✦The Merit Scholarship — our main scholarship, which pays part of your tuition fees directly to your college or university.
✦The Education Continuity Grant — support for students whose marks are below the Merit Scholarship bar, to help you keep studying and work towards qualifying later.
✦Competitive exam coaching — coaching for exams like NEET, JEE, CA, CMA, UPSC, and CAT, each with its own marks requirement.
✦Other help when you need it — vocational training, emergency assistance, exam fee support, and study-material or device support, none of which has a marks requirement.

We pay our scholarship and grant money directly to your institution, never as cash to you or your family, and we fund part of your fees rather than all of them — usually between half and three-quarters. This keeps the support fair and lasting, and keeps you a partner in your own education rather than only a recipient. Browse everything we offer on the All Programmes page.

How to start

You do not need to fill in a long form or gather a pile of documents to begin. The first step is simply to talk to us. Message us on WhatsApp, or call the same number, and tell us a little about your situation. We will listen, explain honestly what you can apply for, and walk you through the rest. Do orphan girls really qualify at a lower marks bar?

Yes — full orphans do. If you have lost both your parents and live with family, you qualify for the Merit Scholarship at 75%, where other eligible students need 85% for undergraduate study and 80% for postgraduate study. If you grew up in a children’s home with no family at all, the bar is gentler still — 60% — under the Care Leaver Scholarship, which also funds your whole education rather than part of it.

I lost both my parents and grew up in a children’s home. Which support is mine?

The Care Leaver Scholarship. It is for a girl who was raised in a registered children’s home and is leaving with no family to return to. It asks for 60% in Class 12 and covers your full education — tuition, hostel, and exams — because you have no family to help with the balance. My father has died but my mother is alive. Do I qualify?

You may. If your mother is alive but has no income, savings, or resources to fund your education on her own, you can apply. Reach out and we will talk it through with you.

What if my mother has passed away but my father is alive?

If your father is alive and able to support you, that situation on its own does not qualify you. But if your father cannot provide — because of a serious disability, critical illness, severe mental illness, addiction, or imprisonment — then you do qualify. Please get in touch so we can understand your situation.

My marks are a little below the threshold. Should I still apply?

Please do, especially if your university or board marks strictly. Our Scholarship Committee looks at each case as a whole, not only the percentage. We would always rather you ask than rule yourself out.

What if I don’t have all the documents?

Missing documents are never a reason not to reach out. Just message us to begin, and we will help you gather what is needed.

Does it cost anything to apply or to ask?

No. The Foundation never charges any fee — no application fee, no processing fee, nothing — at any stage. If anyone ever asks you for money in our name, please report it to support@vedicologyfoundation.com.
